Introduction
Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (KSGE) was established 1976 and has since become
the largest society in Korea, with over 10,000 members. Over the last 48 years, KSGE have made remarkable progress in both quantity and quality, contributing significantly to the promotion of national health. To expand its global outreach and engage with international colleagues, the first International
Digestive Endoscopy Network (IDEN) was held in 2011, followed by annual meetings. Since 2022, IDEN has evolved into an independent society, separate from KSGE. As a result, KSGE has decided to host KSGE Days annually as its official conference, succeeding the Korean International Digestive Endoscopy
Congress (KIDEC).
In 2009, Korean Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Research Foundation (KGERF) was founded offering KSGE members opportunities to engage in research within the field of GI endoscopy. KGERF has been providing research grants to KSGE members annually. Health campaigns have been held every year, providing the public with practical education and knowledge related to GI endoscopy. In 2012, KSGE initiated the first National Endoscopic Quality Improvement Program, evaluating the endoscopic performance of 1,016 hospitals with over 100 beds. This program has been conducted every 3 years since its inception.
Currently, KSGE is preparing for the future endoscopy by organizing an artificial intelligence endoscopy research group and green endoscopy task force team.

International Task
1) IDEN (International Digestive Endoscopy Network)
KSGE launched IDEN to lead the research of gastrointestinal endoscopy, educate young endoscopists from Asian-Pacific region, and encourages mutual growth through active exchange of information and communication among member countries’ gastrointestinal endoscopic societies. The first IDEN conference was held in 2011 and has been taking place annually since. Over the last 13 years, tens of thousands of participants from 64 countries have attended.
ENDO 2024 incorporating IDEN 2024
In 2022, IDEN officially became an independent
society, recognized by the Korean Medical Association. ENDO & IDEN 2024 was held from July 4th to 6th at COEX, Seoul, with 3,196 participants from 84 Countries.
2) KSGE Days 2024
KSGE Days 2024 is scheduled to take place from September 27th to 28th, 2024, at the Seoul Dragon City Hotel, under the theme ‘Empowering Excellence in Endoscopy: Educate, Collaborate, and Innovate!’. The primary objective of KSGE Days is to train the next generation of endoscopy experts, drawing from the successful experience of the Asian Young Endoscopist Awards (AYEA), which provided free education to young endoscopists in the Asia-Pacific region, and the International Young Endoscopist Awards (IYEA), which expanded globally.
We expect more than 700 experts from home and abroad will attend this year and that it will be a venue for exchanging the latest technology and knowledge in gastrointestinal endoscopy for all gastroenterologists from early-career endoscopists to high level experts.
Please visit and explore the detailed scientific program at www.ksgedays.or.kr.
3) KDDW (Korean Digestive Disease Week)
The inaugural KDDW was launched in 2017 by eight gastroenterology and hepatology member societies in Korea. KDDW provides an open forum for participants from all over the world to exchange up-to-date information and recent research findings, as well as to promote
friendship. KSGE has actively contributed to past KDDWs, successfully hosting KDDW in 2020 and 2022. KSGE is now hosting KDDW 2024, which will take place from December 12th to 14th,
2024 at the Grand Walkerhill Seoul Hotel, Seoul.
You are able find details on the scientific programs and other events at www.kddw.org.
4) KSGE/IDEN International Webinar
KSGE launched an endoscopy webinar program to provide an efficient academic learning tool in 2022. It has been taking place once a year for KSGE/IDEN members.
5) Collaboration with international societies
KSGE has collaborated with many international societies including A-PSDE, ASGE, DEST, JGES, ESGE, TAGE, TSGE, WEO during the annual IDEN conferences. While the joint sessions take place regularly, the collaboration cycles vary for each society.
Domestic Activities
1) KSGE Seminar
KSGE have held KSGE seminars annually since 1989. The 70th Seminar was held in August, 2024 with approximately 5,000 participants.
2) Certification of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Subspecialty Board
Since the 1st Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Subspecialty Board qualification test, KSGE has certified Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Subspecialty Board of 300-500 endoscopists annually. KSGE has 9,466
members with Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Subspecialty Board in 2024.
3) Certification of KSGE-accredited Endoscopy Unit
KSGE launched the approval program of KSGE-accredited Endoscopy Unit in 2013 to improve the quality of gastrointestinal endoscopy units in Korea. In 2024, 195 endoscopy units in 195 hospitals have been
approved as the KSGE-accredited Endoscopy Unit.
4) Collaborative academic works with 8 regional bureaus
Academic symposiums, research festivals, and interactive seminars have been held with collaboration between KSGE and its 8 regional bureaus.
